Semaine 42: THE MAGNETIC NORTH - Prospect of Skelmersdale (2016)

Après un splendide premier album sorti en 2012 et intitulé Orkney: Symphony of the Magnetic North, revoilà les Magnetic North, fantastique groupe anglais porté par la divine Hannah Peel, et dont les compositions folk richement orchestrées sont un enchantement pour mes oreilles.

Prospect of Skelmersdale est un concept album sur les villes dortoirs (une chanson s'appelle du reste Cergy-Pontoise), et l'album est de ce fait traversé d'archives publicitaires ou de discours appuyant intelligemment des mélodies mélancoliques et un peu surannées, à l'image de ces villes un peu tristounes.

Parfois les Magnetic North rappellent Flotation Toy Warning ou Musée Mécanique, c'est dire la qualité de l'ensemble, totalement envoûtant, même si un poil moins renversant que le premier album.

N'hésitant pas illustrer leurs chansons de cordes amples et majestueuses, ce disque dégage un charme vaporeux et troublant et confirme les Magnetic North comme un groupe rare et important.
