Semaine 40: FRANCK OCEAN - Endless (2016)

Après un tonitruant premier album qui réconciliait Soul, R&B et Hip-hop, je désespérais d'avoir un jour des nouvelles de Frank Ocean.

Prenant tout le monde par surprise, il est de retour en 2016, avec non pas un album, mais deux.

Endless est le premier sorti et il m'a laissé perplexe.

Toute la magie du premier album semble évaporée pour laisser place à un album sombre, terriblement mélancolique, limite cafardeux, où l'auto-tune règne en maître (à mon grand désarroi) et où les chansons se font rares.

Bien sur les textes restent fantastiques, mais l'aspect musical déçoit grandement. Pas une once de mélodie (ah si, le dernier titre, Higgs, est super), peu d'idées, et encore et encore trop de rythmes syncopés à la James Blake (ce dubstep va finir par m'achever).

Une immense déception donc, mais que je pourrai relativiser après avoir écouté son troisième album, Blonde, sorti dans la foulée.
